Hello! I’m Adam Villareal, and I'm a former electric motor design engineer, now turned content designer for video games. I'm searching for my next entry or entry-mid level role in game design, specifically content or level design.

My love for game design began in the mid-2000s through making custom maps and modes for friends in the StarCraft Broodwar Map Editor. Despite many late nights in college leading raids in World of Warcraft, I’ve earned a degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, a minor in Astrophysics, and have worked on numerous engineering projects, including an implantable neurostimulator.

After graduating I’ve gone on to work in both the medical device and electric vehicle industry for a little over five years, my last projects being designing and testing the motors for Rivian’s R1T, R1S, and their upcoming R2 series. Although I’ve learned a lot and enjoyed various aspects of electric vehicle design, upon reflecting I realized there was something missing in my career: I craved more creativity and art. With that, this is where my self-taught game design journey and career pivot comes in. Developing games is a perfect blend of art, design, math, and science, pairing my strengths and interests seamlessly.

With game design, my goal is to create experiences that leave a lasting impression, whether it’s through an immersive story, innovative mechanics, or puzzles and challenges that gets players buzzing. What I love most about the game design process is flexing empathetic design practices. I enjoy the challenge of crafting a space with the player top of mind and critically thinking about how they'll experience design choices.

Outside of work you can find me climbing the ladder on Street Fighter 6, organizing EDH pods for Magic: The Gathering, camping with my dog, or nerding out about the Rollei 35 (and why I think it’s the ideal film camera for the analog aficionado).

I’m currently based in Orange County, California. I can work independently in remote environments, but I’m also open to relocating.

Let’s work together!
